How it's takenCelexa is part of a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These medications stop the brain being more able to take action on its serotonin levels. This allowsettlement for a range of side effects that can affect daily life.
The recommended starting dose of Celexa for depression is 10 mg three times a day, as prescribed by a doctor. The dose can be increased to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg based on tolerability. Celexa can be taken with or without food, but a high-fat meal might delay its onset of action.
The dosage of Celexa for anxiety is typically increased to 100 mg three times a day, as prescribed by a doctor. The dose can be decreased to 25 mg or increased to 60 mg based on tolerability. Celexa can cause a temporary change in mood, especially with severe depression, panic disorder, or suicidal thoughts.
